GTA 6 Gameplay Reveal Was Netflix’s Most-Watched Content Last Week
GTA 6 has made history by becoming the first video game to premiere gameplay footage on a subscription streaming service like Netflix. The unusual approach was reportedly suggested by Rockstar Games itself, and judging by the numbers, the strategy appears to have paid off.
According to statistics reported by Variety, the GTA 6 Extended Look attracted approximately 31.1 million views on Netflix during its first four days. The gameplay presentation was also the most-watched piece of content on Netflix in 87 out of the 93 markets included in the data.
However, Netflix's viewing figures work differently from traditional video platforms. The company calculates views by dividing the total amount of time a title was watched by its runtime. Because of this methodology, the actual number of individual people who watched the GTA 6 footage could potentially be higher than the reported figure suggests.
The performance is particularly notable when compared with YouTube. Rockstar Games' official YouTube channel has so far recorded around 17.7 million views for the same GTA 6 gameplay presentation.
With millions of viewers tuning in across multiple platforms, Rockstar's decision to bring the GTA 6 reveal to Netflix appears to have given the game an unusually large amount of exposure even before its release.
