Mariana County

The county appears to cover parts of southern and southwestern Leonida and is associated with both the Grassrivers and Leonida Keys regions.

It was first referenced on an Interstate 404 road sign in Port Gellhorn, where it appeared alongside Vice-Dale County.

Description

Mariana County appears to include some of Leonida’s most distinctive natural environments.

The county is believed to contain much of the Grassrivers, a large wetland area inspired by the Florida Everglades, as well as parts of the Leonida Keys, the state’s tropical island chain.

Because of this, Mariana County likely features a mixture of swamps, waterways, bridges, islands, small communities, and more isolated rural roads.

Its environment appears considerably less urbanized than areas such as Vice-Dale County.

Grassrivers

The Grassrivers region is believed to be located within Mariana County.

Inspired by the Florida Everglades, the area features wetlands, marshes, wildlife, waterways, and sparsely populated terrain.

The region is expected to provide one of the strongest contrasts to the dense city environments found elsewhere in Leonida.

Leonida Keys

Parts of the Leonida Keys also appear to fall within Mariana County.

The Keys are inspired by the real-world Florida Keys and feature tropical islands, bridges, marinas, waterfront properties, fishing areas, and small coastal communities.

Jason Duval has strong connections to this region and is known to live in Key Lento.

Influence

Mariana County is likely inspired primarily by Monroe County, Florida.

Monroe County includes the Florida Keys and also contains large portions of the Everglades, making it a strong geographical match for Mariana County’s apparent territory.

The fictional county name may also reflect the maritime and coastal character of the area, although Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed the origin of the name.

Watson Bay

Watson Bay is another known town within Mariana County.

Relatively little has been revealed about the community so far, but its location within the Leonida Keys suggests that it likely features waterfront development, boating culture, and tropical coastal surroundings.
