GTA 6 Map Is Massive: You Could Fit Two GTA 5 Maps Inside It
Rockstar Games has revealed new details about the size of GTA 6's map and the expected length of its story, and the numbers are seriously impressive.
With Grand Theft Auto 6 getting closer, Rockstar Games continues to reveal new information about its upcoming open-world blockbuster. Among the biggest revelations so far are details about the game's enormous map and how long players can expect to spend completing the story.
According to Rockstar's head of development, Rob Nelson, the world of GTA 6 is roughly twice the size of GTA 5's map.
Vice City Is Only One Part of the World
GTA 6 is bringing players back to Vice City, but the iconic city is only one part of a much larger world.
The game takes place across the fictional state of Leonida, which is heavily inspired by the U.S. state of Florida. Rockstar has already shown several different regions that players will be able to explore throughout the game.
Known locations currently include:
- Vice City
- Port Gellhorn
- Leonida Keys
- Grassrivers
- Mount Kalaga National Park
- Ambrosia
According to the latest information, Vice City itself is around twice the size of Los Santos from GTA 5. When the surrounding areas are included, the scale becomes even more impressive.
This means GTA 6 isn't simply going to offer a larger version of the GTA 5 world. Rockstar appears to be creating a much more varied environment, combining a huge city with beaches, islands, swamps, rural areas, highways and wilderness.
How Long Will GTA 6 Take to Complete?
The size of the map isn't the only impressive number Rockstar has revealed.
Rob Nelson reportedly said that his most recent playthrough of GTA 6, completed in February, took approximately 80 hours.
That playthrough included the main storyline as well as some optional objectives that can have narrative consequences.
The 80-hour figure shouldn't necessarily be considered the exact length of GTA 6 for every player. Someone focusing almost exclusively on the main missions could finish the game faster, while players who explore Leonida and complete side activities could potentially spend well over 80 hours in the game.
GTA 6 Is About More Than Just a Bigger Map
Rockstar isn't only expanding the size of the world. GTA 6 is also introducing several systems designed to make the game feel more detailed and realistic.
Some of the features revealed so far include:
- A new relationship system
- More realistic driving
- More detailed vehicle theft mechanics
- An overhauled Wanted system
- Criminal profiles and more advanced police responses
- A wide range of side activities
- A more interactive and detailed open world
The relationship between Jason and Lucia, GTA 6's two main protagonists, is also expected to play an important role in the story.
Rockstar Is Building Its Biggest GTA World Yet
Everything Rockstar has revealed so far suggests that GTA 6 is shaping up to be the biggest and most ambitious Grand Theft Auto game ever made.
A map roughly twice the size of GTA 5, an estimated 80-hour playthrough and a huge amount of optional content could make GTA 6 one of the most expansive open-world games Rockstar has ever created.
And considering how much of Leonida Rockstar has yet to reveal, there could still be plenty of surprises waiting for players.
